Paula Deen, the celebrity chef known for celebrating Southern fried goodness and adding pounds of butter to every dish, is now trimming the fat in her recipes, and her waistline.
The Food Network star was motivated to get in shape and eat healthier after she was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2011.
Since dieting is daunting, Deen recruited her husband Michael and their two sons Jamie and Bobby for a group get-fit effort that has led to an impressive collective weight loss for the entire clan.
Deen and her family have shed a total of 178 pounds and share their family secrets in the new issue of People magazine out Friday.
“Doing it together helps so much,” Deen says. “It’s just easier when y’all encourage each other and pull in the same direction.”
