Rapper Nicki Minaj wasn’t entirely convincing that her “feud” with fellow new “American Idol” judge Mariah Carey is over, but at least she tried when she appeared on Tuesday’s episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
When Ellen asked Nicki about the “bickering situation” that’s dominated the warm-up to Season 12, which premieres this week on FOX, Minaj sighed, “I don’t know, it was just two big ole divas, I guess.”
“I guess I heard them saying stuff beforehand, like Mariah doesn’t want you on the panel, but I said no, I was friends with Mariah, so I didn’t believe it,” Minaj began.
“Then I went there and I was kind of feeling like the shade, and I just kind of overcompensated by being…crazier,” Minaj laughed.
But the rapper’s “I’ll show you!” plans didn’t exactly go over well with Mariah Nicki admits.
“It’s really a defense mechanism, you know when your feelings are hurt,” Minaj reasoned, “and you can’t believe it so you compensate by being crazy.”
And now? “We’re fine,” Minaj said. “I can not hold a grudge against Mariah Carey. I’ve looked up to her for so many years — my mother and I would sing her songs all day and all night.”
“I don’t know if she’s gotten over it, but I have,” Minaj adds. “If she’s still holding a grudge, I don’t know, I don’t care.”

Just as soon as it had sounded like Minaj had moved on, she confessed she has concerns about when “Idol” broadcasts the live shows (and loose cannons could be firing left and right).
“You know what, I’m not looking forward to live shows,” Minaj then admitted, “because I can not trust myself…I just want it to go well, it’s about the contestants, and if there’s some comment being made … and I don’t want anyone on the panel to say something crazy because then I don’t want to look like a crazy psycho again.”
“I am really not a crazy psycho, you guys, like seriously, please, no, I swear,” Minaj insisted.
The two-night premiere of Season 12 of “American Idol” premieres Wednesday from 8 – 10 p.m. and Thursday from 8 – 9 p.m. on FOX.
Later that night, Minaj appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” where she recounted the story about that time she was … upstaged by a porn star. Watch the Clip Below.
