Keith Urban insists he doesn’t regret joining “American Idol” … or rather, joining the “Idol” madness that comes with this twelfth season’s new judges.

The country star says he’s enjoying the new gig, really he is.

“We’re putting the fun in ‘dysfunction,’” Urban told talk-show host and former “Idol” judge “Ellen DeGeneres” on her talk show Monday.

“It feels like I’ve just joined some band in a way,” Urban added of the new “Idol” posse, which includes Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and both of their egos (and don’t forget Randy Jackson too).

Of the blow-ups between Carey and Minaj that made headlines early on in filming, Urban just laughed.

“Look, I will say you have four genuinely passionate people and we get thrown on the dance floor and are told, okay, dance together, go,” Urban explains, “…and a few toes get stepped on while we’re figuring out the groove, but by Hollywood Week, we got a really good flow going.”

The interview, which airs Monday, was taped Friday — before this weekend’s Golden Globe Awards, so that explains why DeGeneres congratulated Urban on his win — even though he did not end up winning the award Sunday night.

The two-night premiere of Season 12 of “American Idol” premieres Wednesday from 8 – 10 p.m. and Thursday from 8 – 9 p.m. on FOX.
