In a seriously momentous occasion, perpetually bumped “guest” Matt Damon will officially make his first visit — for real — to “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on the Jan. 24 episode, ABC announced Friday.
Or as the network described it in the press release, “ARCH ENEMIES JIMMY KIMMEL AND MATT DAMON TO FINALLY COME FACE TO FACE FOR AN EPIC THROWDOWN.”
It’s a guest appearance 10 years in the making. With Kimmel’s move to 11:35 p.m. earlier this week, the time seems right.
Damon is the hook of a long-running joke that Kimmel began on the first season of the show, where he signs off from the broadcast apologizing for bumping Matt Damon from the show because they’re “running out of time.”
The gag spawned the infamous videos “I’m F**king Matt Damon,” featuring Kimmel’s then-girlfriend Sarah Silverman and Damon, and the equally hilarious sequel, “I’m F**king Ben Affleck,” starring Kimmel and Affleck.
“May God help Damon if he dares show his stupid face,” Kimmel said Friday of the long-awaited showdown.
