Britney Spears is outta here, y’all.

The pop star is leaving “The X Factor” and will not return for Season 3, multiple sources report Thursday.

It seems Ms. Spears is getting the jump on her bosses and is avoiding getting fired, as has been heavily speculated, by quitting first.

Spears’ exit after one season was pretty much inevitable. Many believed the show would be saying bye bye to Brit Brit because she failed to deliver on the promise Simon Cowell had hoped for when he signed Spears to the show. The 31-year-old singer was paid a hefty $15 million salary for Season 2 but it didn’t payoff in terms of a ratings boom or in the drama department. The shy Spears appeared timid on camera, was mostly drama-free (aside from her occasional disappearing acts in the middle of auditions) and summed up the majority of her judging critiques as “amazing.” In fact, the most amazing part of her presence on the show was her well-documented propensity for making funny faces.

And so, with Cowell’s latest judging experiment over, Spears can get back to what she does best. She’s currently in the studio recording her eighth album, and that’s where she wants to be — focusing on her music.

“Britney loves Simon, she likes Demi Lovato, but her thing is music,” a source tells TMZ.

The beleaguered Fox singing competition now faces, once again, replacing two judges on the panel; L.A. Reid announced his departure a few months ago after two seasons on the show. Demi Lovato’s future on the show is an unknown, but Miss Sassypants was generally considered a fun addition to the show, so viewers could expect to see her back for a second term.

Fox has not commented on the reports that Britney’s bailing, and Cowell has not discussed his plans for the third season of the show, as he’s been on a much-needed vacation, according to Fox exec Kevin Reilly. For whatever it’s worth, Reilly told TV critics Tuesday in Los Angeles, “I think Britney did a really good job.”
