Simon Cowell is reportedly disappointed with how things turned out with Spears on board the judges’ panel in Season 2.
“He wanted crazy Britney, but he got boring Britney,” a source tells Us Weekly.
“Britney will get the boot … It isn’t working.”
Another insider echoes those sentiments to The New York Post.
“Britney got a huge contract, and was expected to deliver massive drama and massive ratings, but she did neither,” a source tells Page Six. “Britney seemed very nervous and shy, she wasn’t able to do many press commitments, and she was a little too nice as a judge. Producers wanted drama, tears and meltdowns, but there were none.”
The price of “boring” Britney is costly not just for Fox’s bankroll — but also in the ratings. Britney cost way more than fellow new judge Demi Lovato, who ended up being the spitfire.
“But the biggest problem was she didn’t bring in the ratings to justify her enormous salary. Demi, who got about half her deal, actually turned out to be better television and had a stronger following.”
Fox has not commented on the reports. The beginning stages of auditions for the third season of “The X Factor” will begin in early 2013, but a decision on who stays and who goes on the judges’ panel likely won’t be decided until next summer.
