ABC News’ Senior White House Correspondent Jake Tapper is leaving ABC to join CNN, it was announced Thursday.
Tapper will anchor a new weekday program on CNN, as well as serve as the cable news network’s Chief Washington Correspondent. His new show does not yet have a title but is slated to debut in 2013.
“With CNN’s impeccable reporting during the elections and the exciting changes in the works for the network, this is a perfect time to join the CNN team,” Tapper said in a statement released by CNN. “I am excited about the prospect of working with both the new leadership and some old friends and colleagues.”
Tapper is the first big move made by CNN since former NBC exec Jeff Zucker was announced to take over the network.
