While public attention is focused on guns and Hollywood following the tragedy at the Connecticut elementary school, Discovery has announced that the network is cancelling reality series “American Guns.”

Although the network states that the decision was made well before last week’s events, the cancellation seems timely given other recent television moves that spawned from the tragedy. In addition, the show has been a target of angry viewers in recent days.

“American Guns” focused on the Wyatt family, who made guns for a living. Now, Deadline reports that the network won’t even run repeats of the show.

“American Guns concluded earlier this year,” a spokesperson told the site. “Discovery Channel chose not to renew the series and has no plans to air repeats of the show.”

The series now joins two other veteran Discovery series that have recently been axed in “Dirty Jobs” and “American Chopper.”
