Awards season is officially in high gear, with the Golden Globe nominations announced Thursday in Beverly Hills, Calif., by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and with the help of presenters Jessica Alba, Megan Fox and Ed Helms (“The Office”).

The 70th annual Golden Globe Awards will be presented on Sunday, Jan. 13 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, airing live on NBC. This year’s awards ceremony features the dynamic comedy duo of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as the hosts — who will be facing off against each other in the Best Actress in a Comedy category!

Leading the way with the most noms are Showtime’s “Homeland” (four), the hottest show on TV right now, and HBO’s outstanding TV movie, “Game Change” (five), about Sarah Palin’s meteoric rise to political fame.

Meanwhile, the shows probably considered the most snubbed are AMC’s “Mad Men” (although leading man Jon Hamm did score a nod) and HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” which may have been dethroned to make room for HBO’s freshman drama “The Newsroom” from Aaron Sorkin (scoring noms for Best Drama and Best Actor). Another freshman series got some sweet notice, as ABC’s “Nashville” drew acting nods for its two country-singing ladies, Connie Britton (Lead) and Hayden Panettiere (Supporting), while hot period drama “Downton Abbey” was also well represented.
