The third-season premiere of “Game of Thrones” is more than three months away, but series star Emilia Clarke was already out promoting it Monday night on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

Clarke, 25, is the striking British-born actress who plays Daenerys “Dany” Targaryen — also known by the title “the Khaleesi” — on the fanciful HBO series about warring factions in a place resembling medieval England. On the series, she’s known for her pale, blonde hair, but that’s a wig, the dark-haired Clarke revealed on “JKL.”

“Game of Thrones” is due to start its third season on HBO on March 31. But with Clarke on his show this week, Kimmel took the opportunity to ask her about the upcoming season.

“Will we see you do battle? Does the Khaleesi join the war?” Kimmel wanted to know, demonstrating that he probably does follow the show, as he claimed to do on Monday’s show. He was referring to the ongoing battles for territory and supremacy that are the hallmark of this series, which is based on a series of books by George R.R. Martin.

“Well, yes,” Clarke revealed, “in Season Three, Khaleesi gets properly bad-ass.” It was all she would reveal about the upcoming season, but the prospect of the 5’3″ Dany engaging in pitched battle was a tantalizing tidbit.

Kimmel also asked Clarke about a particular scene he mentioned at least twice — when Dany ate a raw horse’s heart. Clarke revealed that the thing was fake, obviously — and made up of edible material that gave it the consistency of “a giant Gummy Bear,” but one smeared with fake blood. Unfortunately, the fake blood “sort of tasted like bleach,” she said.

This high-profile role in “Game of Thrones” is Clarke’s first-ever role in anything, which she admitted was a lucky break — and one that’s exceedingly rare for a young actress. “I did drama school and then I auditioned for ‘Game of Thrones’ and they stupidly put me on it — [and] stuck a wig on me!” she told Kimmel.

One subject Kimmel didn’t bring up: Her widely reported relationship with “Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane. Rumors that they were a couple flared up all over the place following the Emmy Awards last September (which MacFarlane hosted). She did get to mention another upcoming project, however: She’s set to star on Broadway in a new stage adaptation of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” starting in February.
