Michael Buble is an Elmo fan. The smooth singer duets with the beloved “Sesame Street” star on his upcoming NBC Christmas special, ”Michael Bublé: Home for the Holidays,” and none of the recent problems with Elmo’s puppeteer, Kevin Clash, made him want to cut their number.

“There was never a discussion to lose him,” Bublé tells XfinityTV.com in an exclusive interview. “The truth is, Elmo didn’t do anything. He’s a three-year-old monster. He’s innocent, sweet, and funny — and very polite, too.”

Bublé hopes that viewers are able to look beyond the Clash scandal and instead focus on the performance itself. “The deal is that Elmo is featured on my special and that’s kind of how I really felt about it,” he says. “[The performance is] so warm and sweet. It really is a beautiful moment. I think people will enjoy it.”

Bublé’s second NBC Christmas special also features Rod Stewart, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Blake Shelton. The thirty-seven-year-old crooner, who taped the special in his native Vancouver, says this year’s show is “faster, funnier, and sweeter” than last year’s. “I think this year it’s a lot looser,” he admits. “And the truth is I just enjoy doing it more because I feel loose now.”

Bublé likes the idea of becoming one of TV’s holiday fixtures. “It means a lot to me, being invited into people’s homes during a holiday that’s so personal to them,” he says. “I [grew up in] a household that was loud and crazy. I love the fact that I get to be a part of dysfunctional families everywhere having Christmas!”

As for his own favorite family holiday activity, Buble says he’s obsessed with the film “Elf.” “‘Elf’ I’m absolutely crazy about,” he admits.  “I am a huge Will Ferrell fan. The thing I love about Will Ferrell is that he plays these characters that — and this is a different character of course — but usually he plays characters that have no reason to have a gigantic ego but we all kind of fall in love with them. This one I think is just so sweet and it’s really funny. I brought my niece and nephew over last Christmas to see it for the first time and they absolutely loved it. Even my wife saw it for the first time and fell in love with it. It’s kind of an instant classic.”
