Nickelodeon has given the greenlight to the spin-off show, “Sam and Cat,” starring “iCarly‘s” Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande of “Victorious.”

The teen comedy, coming from “iCarly” creator and executive producer Dan Schneider, will center on the crazy adventures of “Sam & Cat,” unlikely best friends who become roommates and start their own part-time babysitter business.

“Jennette and Ariana are adored by our audience, and it’s great to unite these talented actresses in this hilarious new comedy from Dan Schneider,” said Russell Hicks, President, Content Development and Production, Nickelodeon in a statement. “This show promises to deliver on what our audience loves most about these two favorite characters — laugh-out-loud humor and non-stop adventure, and is sure to be a compelling new chapter for our new comedic duo.”

Friday’s announcement comes on the heels of last week’s series finale of “iCarly,” which topped all basic cable with 6.4 million total viewers.

Production on the 20-episode order begins in January, with the show premiering later in 2013.

“iCarly” itself was a spin-off of the Nick series, “Drake & Josh.” And “Sam and Cat” is the latest in a long string of Nick series for Schneider, whose resume also includes creating and producing “Drake & Josh,” “Zoey 101″ and “The Amanda Show,” as well as executive producing “Kenan & Kel” and “All That.”
