Just minutes after the “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars” season finale ended, Derek Hough, who came in a shocking second place with gymnast Shawn Johnson, told reporters he might leave the show that made him famous.
The blond golden boy, who has thrilled fans for ten seasons with his amazing choreography and has won the mirror ball trophy three times, was asked if “All-Stars” was his “DWTS” swan song.
“I mean, we’ll see,” Derek hedged. “I can’t say right now.”
But he heavily hinted that he wants to pursue other opportunities, telling xfinityTV, “There’s so much I want to do. It’s just about the next chapter. It’s been ten seasons of this and I’ve won three times and the seasons I haven’t won, I’ve been more than proud of and it’s been extraordinary. I feel like it’s [been] conquered and on to the next, you know?”
Well, no, we didn’t know — until we saw Derek break down in tears during rehearsal footage aired on the show Tuesday night. Backstage, Derek explained to reporters that a producer had told him, ‘I have the feeling that was probably your last time on the dance floor’ and that question sort of floored me. I was shocked at how I reacted. I was sort of overwhelmed and could barely speak, to be quite honest with you, because of all the memories of the show and the people I’ve met and how amazing it is, the [DWTS] family and it was overwhelming. I couldn’t even describe the feeling and I always want to be part of the show in some way. Who knows?”

Derek also implied that some of the other longtime pros might also want to bow out of the show, saying cryptically, “It’s not just me, it’s everyone.”
In fact, Maksim Chmerkovskiy has said all season he might quit to pursue other opportunities. And Tuesday night he was at it again, pontificating to reporters about the possibility of appearing on his “All-Stars” partner Kirstie Alley’s new TV Land show, “Giant Baby.” Maks said he’s “going to go home and exhale and I would never say no to Kirstie so if she wishes to have me as anything [on her new show], I would gladly take the opportunity. She’s amazing and we have an incredible relationship and whatever she asks for, I’ll do.”
Incredibly, Maks shrugged, “I never said I’m not coming back [to 'DWTS'].” Oh, yeah?
He clarified, “I said that I’m an opportunist in a positive way. That’s how I’ve been raised so if there’s something out there that’s interesting, that’s exciting, I would take it.”
And apparently, Derek feels the same way, leaving “DWTS” fans to wonder and worry that the golden boy and the bad boy both might be abandoning the ballroom!
