With the first-ever all female showdown set for the “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars” season finale (airing Monday and Tuesday nights on ABC), you might think the claws would come out.
But instead, it’s all “Go Girl Power!” pride among the Final Three — Shawn Johnson, Melissa Rycroft and Kelly Monaco — all of whom advanced to the finals after last week’s shocking results show, where two former champs/fierce athletes, Apolo Anton Ohno and Emmitt Smith, were eliminated from “All-Stars.”
After the Final Three were set, xfinityTV spoke with the happy ladies backstage for their takes on the first-ever all-gal finale in “DWTS” history.
During our chat with “General Hospital” star Kelly Monaco — notable for being the show’s first winner and the show’s first wardrobe malfunction victim, she joked that a “nip slip” could be her key to her second mirror ball trophy.
But her partner Val Chmerovskiy vows to do “things that have never been seen before” on the show. Considering that’s coming from the guy who donned “Dancing’s” first-ever Speedo, that’s saying a lot.
Here’s what else Kelly and Val told xfinityTV about their plans for dominating “DWTS: All-Stars” Season 15 finale:
How did you feel after hearing the semifinals results?
Kelly: I was kind of numb.
Val, did dancing in the Speedo help your chances?
Val: Nah, I think the Speedo might have distracted. I think Kelly helped. Kelly’s work ethic, that helped the most. [Turns to his partner] You’re so talented.
Kelly: It’s three women in the finals. It’s amazing. I don’t know why it happened. But it happened and I embrace girl power. I think it’s awesome. I’m honored to be up there with two amazing women.
Shawn said it reminds her of her Olympic team!
Kelly: I’m one of five girls. I can step in the ring with her.
If you win, the show would come full circle, with the show’s Season 1 winner also being the “All-Stars” winner.
Kelly: That would be really wild, wouldn’t it? We’ll see. I mean it’s a one-in-three shot at this point.
What’s in your bag of tricks?
Kelly: (Joking) I still haven’t shown my nipples. I was thinking maybe we could go that route.
Val: No. We’re not going to do any nipples or Speedos. We’re going to bare our souls.
Kelly: I don’t know anything about what Val has planned for our freestyle. But I’m sure it’s going to be amazing.
Are they expanding the parameters for highly anticipated freestyle so you can do whatever you want?
Kelly: I think so. You can do whatever you want.
Val: Yes. We’re going to be very creative. I’m not in competition mode. I’m in creative mode. I want to really do a beautiful piece and definitely include things that have never been seen before on ‘Dancing With the Stars.’ I’m not just saying that.
The final three compete for the glitziest mirror ball trophy of all time on Monday’s one-hour final performance episode at 8/7c on ABC, with the two-hour Season 15 finale airing Tuesday night from 9-11 p.m., where the winner will be crowned.
