Wallace Shawn has appeared in some of the most beloved movies of all time, including “My Dinner with Andre” and “The Princess Bride,” but it’s his role as Blair Waldorf’s step father that really gets the “Gossip Girl” star talking.
During a recent phone call promoting the indie comedy “Vamps,” the 69-year-old actor gave me the scoop on the series’ highly anticipated two-hour Dec. 17 finale.
“I’m in the last episode,” he revealed. “The last thing they shot was actually me, and though it will appear in the middle of the episode, it was very striking.”
Shawn, who plays Cyrus Rose alongside Blake Lively and Leighton Meester, is sad the groundbreaking CW show is ending after only six seasons.
“I was very fond of that program and very fond of being on it,” he said. “That was great fun for me.”
With the series’ cast about to hit the unemployment line, the veteran actor offered advice for his young co-stars: don’t get too comfortable.
“There were some who were so young that they didn’t realize how lucky they were to be doing it. You have to have a certain number of years to realize that it is incredible to even have a job at all. It’s amazing. And to have a good job? That’s incredible,” Shawn said. “But if you are very, very young you might just think it is easy to get a job. Some of those poor people are going to be disappointed.”
“Gossip Girl” airs on The CW on Monday nights at 9 p.m. ET. Catch the season finale on December 17, 2012.
