In the biggest shocker on “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars” this season, French actor Gilles Marini was eliminated on Week 8.

Gilles, the Season 8 runner-up who thrilled fans with his buff body, determination to win, and sizzling chemistry with pro partner Peta Murgatroyd, was considered a frontrunner. But on Tuesday’s double elimination night, he and Kirstie Alley were both sent home.

Kirstie Alley on “DWTS: All-Stars” Elimination:
“It Was a Great Run”

After the show, Gilles couldn’t hide his deep disappointment — and gave mysterious reasons for his ouster. The “Switched at Birth” star told reporters he sensed two weeks ago that he was going to go home because “I know what’s going to happen next. It’s well done. It’s a very good show. They know how to make drama and it’s good. This [elimination] is probably for a lot of people, maybe a little bit shocking. It brings some interest.”

The actor blamed his poor showing in Week 7’s dance marathon for their premature exit. Gilles and Peta earned only five points in the marathon, finishing second to last. And that score was added to the cumulative total for the two weeks. “That makes us have to catch points,” Gilles sighed. “The marathon just did it.”

Overall, Gilles said of his season, “I tried everything I could; Peta pushed me to the limits of I can never believe I was about to do those steps.” He then shrugged, “It’s all good. It’s not always about winning. It’s about how hard you try.”

But the star, who finished a narrow second to Shawn Johnson during Season 8 in 2009, still was upset about leaving “DWTS: All-Stars.” He told xfinityTV he learned “something crucial” by doing the show. “[The] one thing that I have is work ethic. I would work till I dropped dead. I have to make sense in my life of where I should apply this. Sometimes it doesn’t matter how hard you work. It takes something else and that something else, I would have to find it in my life because only working doesn’t really cut it this time.”

Meanwhile, his partner Peta joked, “I’m pissed!” She then explained how she really felt: “It’s All-Stars season. To get two weeks shy of the finals of All-Stars, I’m very happy [even though] I think he should be in the finals.”

Gilles Dishes on Peta’s Maks-imum Love Life

Peta is glad she gets to spend more time with her boyfriend, fellow “DWTS” pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who was eliminated with his celebrity, Kirstie. “We get to sleep in tomorrow morning, probably, and go have breakfast, which we have not done for months so yeah, there’s a plus side,” she told reporters. “But I’m sad for them. She was great; she improved every week and he worked really hard with her and they worked hard together.” She and Maks plan to spend Christmas together in Australia.

Gilles had the last word. When asked if he had any regrets about doing All-Stars, he said, “Very good question. I plead the 5th. No regrets because I met Peta.” He repeated that two more times for reporters: “No regrets because I met Peta.”
