A smashing new guest star is coming to NBC and she knows a thing or two about Broadway drama.
Liza Minnelli will guest star as herself on an upcoming episode of “Smash,” NBC announced Tuesday.
The iconic star, who’s won Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards, will sing an original duet with series star Christian Borle in an episode called “The Surprise Party” slated to air later in the spring.
“Liza Minnelli is the essence of a multi-talented, singular show business sensation, particularly for her extraordinary contributions to Broadway,” NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement. “So what could be more fitting than to have her legendary talent on a show that celebrates a world Liza has dazzled for decades? I had the pleasure of working with Liza when we restored her landmark television special Liza With a Z at Showtime, and to see her artistry up close and personal is a thing to behold.”
Other notable guest stars scheduled to appear on Season 2 of “Smash” include Jennifer Hudson, Jesse L. Martin and Sean Hayes.
The second season of “Smash” premieres Feb. 5 on NBC.
