President Obama’s re-election campaign undoubtedly got a big boost Monday night when he received a thumbs-up from none other than Honey Boo Boo.

It’s an endorsement that we assume was much-coveted by the candidates — a show of support that’s at least on par with Lindsay Lohan’s endorsement the other day of Mitt Romney.

Honey Boo Boo, 7, made her political leanings known on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” as she made her late-night television debut alongside her mother, June Shannon — known as Mama June on their wildly popular TLC reality series “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.”

The child’s endorsement came as the result of questioning from host Jimmy Kimmel that the president’s opponents might classify as “leading.” Before asking Honey Boo Boo (real name: Alana Thompson) who she’s supporting for president, Kimmel mentioned that Mitt Romney said recently that he preferred Snooki over Honey Boo Boo when he was asked about his reality-TV preferences on “Live with Kelly and Michael.”

Then Kimmel asked Honey Boo Boo who she’s backing in the election and she said President Obama. And, to add insult to injury, she said she’s never heard of Mitt Romney. Ouch!

Watch Honey Boo Boo and Mama June on “Jimmy Kimmel Live”:

“Is there anything Mitt Romney can do to get your vote back?” Kimmel asked her. Answered Honey Boo Boo: “I dunno.”

That answer was all-too typical of this young star’s first-ever appearance as a guest on a late-night talk show. Basically, she ignored Jimmy’s questions, while alternately staring into space, or fidgeting uncontrollably.

At one point, she dipped her whole hand into Jimmy’s water glass, and at another point, made a gesture with her hands and mouth that came across as vaguely obscene — though Jimmy wisely refrained from commenting on that.

For her part, Honey Boo Boo’s mom was articulate, polite and very likable as she talked about her family and their lives as newly minted reality-TV stars. Among other things, June said she is the family’s sole agent and manager, and that she’s socking away the money the family is making from the TV show for her kids’ futures.
