“Dancing with the Stars” gave former “American Idol” judge Paula Abdul a chance to step back behind a table and the singer/dancer/choreographer had a blast in the ballroom.
Paula judged Week 4 of the All-Stars competition, sitting with regulars Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli and doling out loving opinions to all the celebrities.
After the show, she told reporters, “I hope you could see how much fun I was having. It felt like home. It was very natural and Carrie Ann, Len, Bruno — they were so warm, so welcoming.”
Most of the night was a love fest as the four judges voted almost exactly the same. “I couldn’t believe how we were all in sync at times. It was crazy. Because you have to throw [up] your score not knowing what anyone else is voting.”
Typically, TV’s famed nice judge thought all the celebrities did a great job. But she did single out Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough’s mambo, which earned a near-perfect 39.5 out of 40: “the level of difficulty and precision was gorgeous.”
She also said of Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd’s lively Bollywood routine, which also earned a 39.5: “that was out-of-the-box different, a big jolt of seeing something you don’t get to see other than on ‘So You Think You Can Dance.’ This season everyone wants to do their personal best and I love that.”
In the wackiest moment of Paula’s “DWTS” judging night, after Shawn and Derek’s dance, the ex-”Idol” star clawed at Bruno’s chest. When xfinityTV asked Paula what that was like, she laughed, “Things were getting hard. If it was the guy I used to sit next to — Simon [Cowell] — I would be like, ‘sorry. My fingers are stuck in your massive hair.’”
Despite the convivial atmosphere, however, don’t look for Paula to judge “DWTS” again.
“I’m here for one night only but it’s a blessing being here. That’s all I can tell you,” she told xfinityTV.
