Denise Richards — the one-time Mrs. Charlie Sheen — has been cast in a prospective new series about a teen-aged boy who murdered his aunt.

The show — for which ABC Family is funding the production of a pilot — is tentatively (and appropriately) titled “Socio,” the Disney-owned cable channel announced late Friday.

Richards, 41, will play the boy’s mother, described in a press release as “[the boy] Danny’s perfectly coiffed mother, who once ruled the town’s social scene, but who now struggles to put on a brave face with her son returning home under a cloud of scandal and shame.”

The scenario is this: This kid, Danny (to be played by Avan Jogia) apparently murdered his aunt when he was a mere juvenile of 11 — and was then held in some sort of juvenile facility for five years before his release into the custody of his mother at age 16. The show picks up his story at this point.

Our guess is that this concept may have begun with the title — “Socio” — with someone realizing that we’ve already had a movie called “Psycho” about a psychopath, so why not have a TV show about a sociopath called “Socio”?

Makes sense, doesn’t it?
