Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown makes an awkward announcement on her family’s upcoming Lifetime reality show, “The Houstons: On Our Own.”
But the Houstons are hardly celebrating. Why not? Besides the fact that she’s 19 — and still reeling from the untimely death of her mother in February 2012 — Bobbi Kristina is claiming she’s engaged to her “adopted” brother Nick Gordon.
“Unacceptable,” responds her disapproving Aunt Pat in a preview of the series premiere.
A defiant Bobbi Kristina later tells the cameras: “They want to see us fail. I got one thing to say — You won’t.”
So, what exactly are the pair’s family ties? Gordon was “informally adopted” by Whitney Houston when he was 12 years old and was raised alongside Bobbi Kristina, Whitney’s daughter with ex Bobbi Brown, like siblings. Their relationship has “evolved a lot” over time, according to Us Weekly, which reports that Nick and Bobbi Kristina are “living like a couple in Atlanta.”
Rumors about the surprising engagement first surfaced this spring when Bobbi Kristina was seen wearing a diamond ring. Brown denied the reports at the time, leading many to speculate the “engagement” is a publicity stunt to promote the show.
“The Houstons” reality series follows Whitney’s mother Cissy, her sister-in-law/manager Pat, and Pat’s husband Gary, as the family copes with the loss of the Grammy winner and tries to support Whitney’s daughter as she moves on in a world without her mother.
“The Houstons: On Our Own” premieres Wednesday, October 24 at 9/8c on Lifetime.
