The tragic, fascinating life story of Anna Nicole Smith is getting the Lifetime treatment and after a long search, the network has found its leading lady.
Agnes Bruckner will play the blonde bombshell in “The Anna Nicole Story,” according to Deadline.
The Lifetime original movie will be executive produced by powerhouse producing team Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (“Chicago,” “Smash”, “Drop Dead Diva”) along with Judith Verno.
It will be based on the true story of Vickie Lynn Hogan — a high school dropout from a small Texas town who headed for Hollywood and transformed herself into Anna Nicole Smith, a Playboy Playmate, Guess model, reality show star and eventual wife of oil magnate J. Howard Marshall, 62 years her senior.
Smith died in 2007 at age 39 of a drug overdose in a Florida hotel room. Her 20-year-old son Daniel died the previous year while in his mother’s hospital room. A paternity and custody battle over Smith’s newborn daughter Dannielynn ensued after her death.
Bruckner’s previous TV appearances include roles on “Private Practice,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “Fairly Legal,” and “Covert Affairs.” She recently completed filming on the indie films “A Bit of Bad Luck” and “Wrong Cops,” and will next be seen in “The Baytown Outlaws” starring Billy Bob Thornton, Andre Braugher and Eva Longoria.
