‘DWTS: All-Stars’: Week 2 Elimination Produces an Early Shocker

Kym Johnson, Joey Fatone on "Dancing with the Stars" (ABC)

As the “Dancing with the Star: All-Stars” Week 2 elimination loomed, I expected Bristol Palin to be safe despite her last place finish after scoring an 18 for her country western style quickstep Monday night. I longed for the end of her dance experiment. And frankly, I would have rather seen Honey Boo Boodance to the song Redneck Woman!

But it wasn’t about me, and Bristol would certainly have her tea-party posse voting in force on presidential debate week, wouldn’t she?

So that left Kelly Monaco and Kirstie Alley as the most likely stars to go home. I decided Kelly would go as Kirstie was still working her older woman angle which was likely to get votes from a key “DWTS” demographic. And, as Kelly had admitted on Monday night to xfinityTV, the Season 1 champ had been drowned in a pink dress that didn’t suit her.

With that in mind, here was how it all went down Tuesday night….

Sabrina Bryan and Louis Van Amstel performed their quickstep as the encore dance and it was just as much fun the second time around. This couple was sure to stay in the competition after they finished first on Monday.

The show aired its usual behind the scenes footage from Monday night and we saw Emmitt Smith yelling “I love you” to Apolo Anton Ohno and Helio Castroneves after having dissed them during a clips package aired on the show. Then we saw Louis telling Sabrina, “I’m so glad I didn’t drop you” when their dance ended.

Host Tom Bergeron announced next week will be a double elimination. Whoa! The new announcement left Shawn chirping that she needed to bring her A game. Brooke Burke-Charvet also spoke to Bristol. I didn’t remember what she said; I was distracted by her glasses which made her look even more like her mom, Sarah Palin.

Later, judge Bruno Tonioli was shown muttering “mess” about Bristol’s dance with Mark Ballas, and Maks Chmerkovskiy, Tony Dovolani, and Joey Fatone laughing about it backstage. That was funny — Bristol was even being dissed behind her back by her costars. But then — Bristol was declared SAFE! I wasn’t a bit surprised. Who was laughing now? — Joey and his partner Kym Johnson were in jeopardy while Sarah Palin’s daughter would keep dancing. And surprisingly, Season 5 champ Helio was deemed in danger!

Now we would learn who was going to be sent packing. The next couple safe was…Kelly and Val! That meant Joey and Helio were the bottom two.

And the star that was sent home was Joey Fatone! I guess that cute Charlie Chaplin routine didn’t work for everyone, but I was shocked. I loved that routine, what a shame.
