Twitter’s 140-character limit cannot contain Whoopi Goldberg’s outrage at Mitt Romney.

So the “View” star posted a string of multiple Tweets Wednesday blasting the Republican presidential candidate.

Apparently, there had once been a time when Whoopi — a liberal who will almost certainly vote to re-elect President Obama — at least respected Romney as a moderate Republican.

That’s not the case anymore. Now she’s likening the former Massachusetts governor to a “snake” who “flushed his ideals down the drain.”

The impetus for Whoopi’s Twitter tirade was the leaked videotape of Romney at that private fundraiser, where he seemed to chide the “47 percent” of Americans who he said will support President Obama no matter what, because they’re receiving some sort of government assistance. But elsewhere in the taped remarks, Romney made some comments about “The View” and Goldberg after someone asked him if he would appear on the mid-morning talk show on ABC.

“‘The View’ is high risk because of the five women on it, he’s quoted as saying, in this story on the Huffington Post Web site. “Only one is conservative [Elisabeth Hasselbeck] and four are sharp-tongued and not conservative, Whoopi Goldberg in particular. Although the last time I was on the show, she said to me, ‘You know what? I think I could vote for you.’ And I said, ‘I must have done something really wrong!’”

The women of “The View” talked about Romney’s remarks on Wednesday — watch:

Goldberg, who is traveling in Europe this week and not appearing on “The View,” had this to say on Twitter (here):

“Tweet to Mitt Romney, I once had a great deal of respect for you and many of ur stances. You believed like Teddy Kennedy in healthcare and [new Tweet] a woman’s right to choose and u seemed to actually care about ur people. That was the man I said was someone worth voting for & I said it [new Tweet] publicly today I understand that while talking to like minded folks you took a respectful observation and wondered what you had done wrong [new Tweet] to garner that kind of interest from me.

“Well Mr Romney the man I was talking about turned into a man who flushed his ideals down the drain [new Tweet] only to emerge a confused candidate, confused about what he really stands for and WHO he stands for and adapted a group who stands on the [new Tweet] steps of congress and spits on lawmakers without care for whom it’s affecting, names a health care system Obama care, care that you [new Tweet] yourself adopted for [Massachusetts]. And then pretended it was Obamas idea, your a man who sheds ideas faster than a snake sheds skin, just ask folks …”

On “The View” on Wednesday, Hasselbeck said she contacted Romney’s reps and she received a statement that Romney and his wife, Ann, would be glad to come on “The View” in October.
