“Facts of Life” star Lisa Whelchel’s 24-year marriage to Steve Cauble is over.
The day after she debuted as a contestant on this season of “Survivor: Philippines,” the former teen actress reveals in an interview that she quietly got divorced earlier this year.
“The divorce was final on March 1, and [I] went out to be on Survivor on March 10,” Whelchel told People magazine. “Going out to Survivor was helpful for me, to divert my attention and not just dwell on the loss.
After leaving showbiz behind after “The Facts of Life” ended in 1988, Whelchel, 49, married Cauble, 61, had three children together, and began work in the Christian Ministry.
“I just never thought it would happen to me,” Whelchel says of getting a divorce. “It was painful to realize that it wasn’t going to work out.”
Perhaps this explains why Whelchel had some trouble in her first few days in the Philippines, where the longtime “Survivor” fan was all smiles about joining the show, but had trouble integrating with her tribe mates — several of whom are so young they had no idea who she was.
Whelchel, who now lives in Dallas, Texas, revealed on Wednesday night’s premiere that she lost all of her money from “The Facts of Life” after making some bad investments — something that’s “haunted” her for the last 20 years she said.
So celebrity or not, she could use a million bucks just like the rest of them…
