LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) – The CW is preparing to go through the looking glass with McG, with a modern-day retelling of the “Alice in Wonderland” saga, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

The network is developing the show with McG’s Wonderland Sound and Vision, in association with Warner Bros. Television.
The project, dubbed “Wunderland,” is described as a contemporary reimagining of Alice in Wonderland centered on a young female detective in present-day Los Angeles who discovers another world that exists under the surface of this ultra-modern city.

McG will executive-produce the project, along with his Wonderland partner Peter Johnson.

Chad Hodge, who created NBC’s short-lived 2011 drama “The Playboy Club,” will write the project and also executive-produce.

McG has a long-standing relationship with the CW, executive-producing the network’s “Supernatural” and “Nikita.”

Deadline first reported the news of the “Wunderland” development.
