‘Up All Night’: New Look at Season 2 Changes in Store

The second season of NBC’s “Up All Night” returns this week with some major changes to the series.

The big difference is producers’ decision to pull the plug on the show-within-a-show format — they’ve cancelled Ava’s (Maya Rudolph) talk show. They decided to focus the sitcom more on the family aspect, rather than juggling Reagan’s at-home versus at-work life as the talk show’s producer.

That means Reagan (Christina Applegate) is out of a job, but the good news is she gets to stay home with baby Amy more — and that house-husband Chris (Will Arnett) may have to get back to work.

In these new promos released by NBC, now that she’s been axed and is back on the interviewing scene, Ava sparks a feud with Reagan when she goes to Chris for fashion advice. Check out Chris’s surprising “hawk-like” fashion sense in the clip above.

Meanwhile, Ava may be out of a show but she’s still stealing the show with her antics…

In the season premiere, Chris tries to seduce Reagan with the idea of getting her very own bathroom with a spa-quality jacuzzi tub, when Reagan says something shocking along the lines of “Ava’s not that stressful.” Wait, what? We beg to differ. Watch the clip below.

Season 2 also welcomes Luka Jones as a series regular on board as Reagan’s easy-going younger brother, as well as a highly anticipated multi-episode arc with guest star Sean Hayes (“Will & Grace”), who plays Ava’s former accompanist from her days as a singer.

The second-season premiere of “Up All Night” airs Thursday, Sept. 20 at 8:30/9:30c on NBC.
