Did Katie Couric just reveal the official new “American Idol” judges panel?
It would seem so. The new daytime talk-show host features former “Idol” judge Jennifer Lopez on Friday’s episode of “Katie,” where the two chit chat about the new judges who’ve inherited J.Lo’s old job.
An excerpt of Couric’s interview with Lopez was sent to reporters Thursday, revealing the names of all four judges on the “Idol” panel, at least according to Couric, — Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban. Those last two names are the news here, as the female hip-hopper and the country star were only speculation at this point, but they have not yet officially been announced by Fox as joining the show. (Some media outlets claim the network was planning to formally reveal the new “Idol” judges’ panel on Friday.)
Here’s the revealing part of the “Katie” interview, featuring Lopez’s thoughts on the replacement judges:
KC: What do you think about the new group of judges?
JL: Did they announce?
JL: Who is it?
KC: Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Randy [Jackson]. Randy’s back.
JL: Randy is! Oh thank god. I love Randy. I’m glad he’s doing it.
KC: What do you think of that group? That’s sort of interesting, don’t you think?
JL: That’s an eclectic group.
JL: Yeah it is.
KC: I’m glad. I think it will be fun to have Keith Urban there.
JL: I think they all have something really different to offer so it should be interesting.
