Supermodel Heidi Klum is letting her guard down a bit about those rumors she’s involved romantically with her bodyguard of four years since her split from singer Seal after seven years of marriage.
“I’m doing kind of okay. I mean it is very hard and especially, you know, being in all of the magazine and gossip pages. That is definitely very hard and hurtful, and it’s hard to go through a divorce … if you’re not in the public eye, or if you’re in the public eye—it’s horrible,” Klum, 39, told Couric.
“It’s not something that I wanted, you know. I’m someone who believes in a fairy tale and when I said “I do” … I meant forever,” she continued. “But … you never know what happens. Life … changes, it’s that road with all those bumps and holes, and you trying to struggle through them and … we just couldn’t make it work, you know?”
As for reports that she’s romancing her bodyguard, Martin Kirsten, 39, Klum confirmed to Couric that their professional relationship has turned into something more. “It just started,” she said.
“[Martin]‘s a great man and recently we just got to know each other from a completely different side,” Klum said.
“He’s been with our family for the last four years. He’s cared for our four children and helped us tremendously,” she added. “I trust him with my children’s life.”
After news of their budding romance hit the gossip pages — the two were caught looking cozy on a family vacation to Sardinia — not to mention her burned ex Seal blasting the pair to TMZ saying he wished Heidi had “waited until we separated before deciding to fornicate with the help.” (Seal later apologized, clarifying that he did not mean to imply Heidi had been cheating on him while they were together.)
Now that the dust has settled after the collapse of Heidi and Seal’s marriage, more Klum insiders are talking about Heidi’s relationship with Martin. “It’s complicated,” a friend of Klum’s tells People. He’s her “no. 1 confidante” and he was her “rock” when things with Seal were falling apart.
“They had a friendship that turned romantic,” another family source is quoted as telling People.
