Country star Blake Shelton says the fiesty-friendly rivalry between his costars, blended with some new scene-stealing twists (really, they’re stealing singers this year) have made the third season of NBC’s “The Voice,” which premieres tonight, “better than ever.”

“Season three does trump the first two for so many different reasons,” Shelton said Monday morning on “Today,” where he kept the “Voice” coaches’ trademark banter alive with plenty of playful jabs at his rival coaches.

“I don’t like it when Christina and I agree. Ever. On anything,” Blake complained to Savannah Guthrie when the morning show aired a clip in which the diva and the country boy actually agreed on a critique. “It’s not entertaining.”

Shelton is the show’s reigning champ (his singer, Jermaine Paul, won last season) and as the gang returns to the sing ring for another set of battle rounds this fall, he joked that all of his bragging has irked not just the other singers but also the production crew. That didn’t stop him from taking a few more swipes at his costars.

“It’s gotta be embarrassing to be Cee Lo or Christina,” ribbed Blake, who’s sure they feel “pretty crappy” about not having won a season yet (Adam Levine won the first season).

While the same can’t be said for other reality show judges’ panels, the in-fighting between the “Voice” mentors is one of the best parts of the hit singing competition. The charismatic quartet — comprised of Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera — have an entertaining chemistry, even if their “frenemy” facade is just for show.

They’re actually a really tight group, Shelton says, revealing that the majority of the trash talk takes place mostly on TV.

“He never does it to my face – what a wuss,” Blake grinned as he mentioned how Adam Levine made fun of him on “The Tonight Show” recently.

“We all have each other’s backs when it’s time to,” Blake continued, “and we’re stabbing each other in the back when it’s time to.”

By the way, if you’ve ever wondered if the “Voice” stars have secretly regretted pressing the button and spun around in their red chair thrones and thought, “Oh, crap” upon seeing the mystery singer … the answer is yes!

Blake admitted during the interview that there have been many times when he wished for an “un-do” button: “Oh my God, turn me back around! … But that’s part of the fun of the show,” he laughed.

The three-night Season 3 premiere of “The Voice” begins tonight at 8/7c on NBC.
