NBC sitcom star Matthew Perry is trying to add soccer star David Beckham to his roster of guest-stars.

Perry’s the star of the upcoming NBC comedy series “Go On,” in which he plays the host of a sports-talk radio show who is undergoing grief counseling following a personal tragedy.

For the show, Perry and his producers have been contacting — and signing — a handful of real-life sports personalities to make cameo appearances on the show.

Now comes word that Perry has set his sights on Beckham, the English soccer star who is one of the world’s best-known sports figures. The story is being reported here, on the Hollywood Reporter Web site.

THR cites unnamed sources as saying Perry himself is “the driving force” behind the show’s effort to land the soccer superstar. In the same story, the executive producer of “Go On” — Scott Silveri — says agents and reps for a number of sports figures have been contacting him to try and get their clients on the show.

Among those who are already set to appear, according to THR: NBA star Chris Bosh, football great Terrell Owens, hockey’s Jeremy Roenick and NBC Sports anchor Bob Costas.

Although one episode of “Go On” has already been seen on NBC, the series has its “official” fall premiere Tuesday (Sept. 11) at 9/8c.

On that subject, we have two videos for you to watch: You can see the pilot episode of “Go On” (that’s the episode that aired a few times during NBC’s coverage of the London Olympics last month). Plus, Perry talked about the show this past Friday night on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” We have that video too. Here they are:
