You know a TV show is taking off when it starts to become a frequent topic of conversation or, more to the point, late-night monologue jokes.
Jimmy Kimmel on Wednesday became the latest late-night personality to mine the Honey Boo Boo phenomenon for comedy when he presented a bit in which the TLC show is reimagined as a nature documentary series that might air on a channel such as Discovery or Nat Geo Wild.
“Have you seen this show?” Jimmy asked on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” setting up the bit and preparing to explain “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” in terms of other shows you already know.
The clip, above, is well-worth watching for its comedic value. But for those of you who have not yet sampled “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,” it serves as a primer for what happens on the show — activities such as eating snack foods off the floor, bobbing for pigs’ feet, and rolling around in mud.
We kid you not: Honey Boo Boo and her family do all of this and more — and about 3 million people are tuning into TLC every Wednesday night at 10/9c to watch them do it.
