Nigel Lythgoe will return as executive producer on “American Idol.”

According to E! News, Lythgoe’s extended contract negotiations have left production on the series “way behind schedule.” First up on the “So You Think You Can Dance” judge’s to-do list? “Lock in judges.”

Keith Urban Reportedly Close to Signing ‘American Idol’ Deal

Since “Idol” signed Mariah Carey to the judge’s panel in July, several additional names have been run through the potential judge rumor mill. Those reportedly in contention are Nicki Minaj, Alanis Morrisette Keith Urban, Kanye West, Nic Jonas, and Enrique Iglesias.

The new season of “American Idol” premieres on Fox in January.
