The Amazing World of Gumball
This summer, schools may be on vacation but the laughs sure aren’t as Cartoon Network brings to DVD an all-new world of unimaginable hilarity with its newest comedy release, The Amazing World of Gumball “The DVD” DVD. Packed with 12 episodes from series’ first season – including the titular episode “The DVD” – and a character gallery special feature, the compilation DVD follows the misadventures of 12-year-old Gumball. By all accounts, his world is pretty run-of-the-mill, as long as you think a blue cat with a giant head (Gumball) being chased around school by a T-Rex (Tina), befriending a piece of toast (Anton), hard-core crushing on a girl peanut with antlers (Penny) is normal. Created by Ben Bocquelet and directed by Mic Graves, The Amazing World of Gumball is the first UK-produced full-length animated series out of Cartoon Network Development Studio Europe. Fueled by a combination of 2D and 3D animation in a live-action setting, the comedy series has garnered two 2011 BAFTA Awards for Writing and Animation, a 2012 Annie Award for Best Animated Television Production Children, and a 2012 Kidscreen Award for Best Animated Series; Best Animation; Best Kids Program (viewers choice award). A Beginner’s Guide to Endings
Duke White (Harvey Keitel, Little Fockers, Inglourious Basterds, Reservoir Dogs) hasn’t been an ideal father to his five boys. An inveterate gambler who never experienced a windfall he couldn’t blow within 24 hours, he has come to the end of his rope, literally. Years ago, he signed up his three eldest sons for unsafe drug tests that turned out to have dire consequences: the boys’ life expectancies have been substantially reduced. Upon receiving the news after their father’s funeral, the sons return to their family home in Niagara Falls, where they respond to their eminent demises in different yet equally hilarious ways. Womanizing Cal (Scott Caan, “Hawaii Five-O,” “Entourage”) is determined to hook up with Miranda (Tricia Helfer,“Dark Blue,” “Battlestar Galactica), the one girl who got away. Cautious Jacob (Paulo Costanzo, “Royal Pains”, Splinter), the only son with a real job, is determined to take every risk he didn’t take earlier, usually accompanied by Duke’s youngest son, Todd (Siam Yu). And finally there’s his eldest, Nuts (Jason Jones,“The Daily Show”), a boxer turned promoter who seems to have inherited his father’s love of the calamitous long shot. Written and directed with a keen sense of father-son awareness, Jonathan Sobol’s ‘A Beginner’s Guide to Endings’ features crackling dialogue and bravura performances. Buy the DVD right here.
