Liberal Joy Behar is “furious” with “Republican right-wing extremists” who she says are “trying to steal the vote” — a subject she plans on taking up on her new talk show on Current TV, debuting next week.

Behar, 69, bared her anger at Republicans in a telephone news conference Tuesday (Aug. 28) held to promote her new talk show, titled “Joy Behar: Say Anything!,” which will air weekdays at 6/5c, starting Tuesday, Sept. 4, on Current.

Current is the cable channel partly owned by former Vice President Al Gore. It’s best known as the most recent, former home of Keith Olbermann. Former New York Gov. Elliot Spitzer hosts a show on Current, “Viewpoint with Elliot Spitzer,” weeknights at 8/7c.

In fact, Gore will be Behar’s first guest, she revealed — adding that booking the former vice president had nothing at all to do with the fact that he’s part owner of the cable channel. “He owns the station,” she conceded, but “[that] had nothing to do with booking him. I really do want to talk to him. I want to talk to him about voter suppression that’s going on in a couple of states in the country, and how the extreme right wing in this country is trying to steal the vote, which they did to him in the year 2000 in Florida. And I’m still angry about that.”

“So I want to talk about that,” said Behar, who offered no more information (or evidence) for the right-wing voter-supression conspiracy she alleged.

It was the second time during the brief news conference that Behar — who’s known for her liberal political viewpoints on “The View” — railed against “right-wing extremists.”

Watch Joy define the difference between Republicans and Democrats:

“I’m furious with what the Republican right-wing extremists are doing to the country!” she said. “So those are the topics I want to discuss on my new show because that’s the thing that’s been driving me nuts all summer!”

Behar, whose last talk on HLN was cancelled last year, was asked why she went into business with Current, a channel with a small audience, and one that doesn’t exactly appear to be flush with cash.

And she answered that she likes the network, and also appreciates that they’ve promised her the freedom to say anything she wants on “Say Anything.” “I like this network a lot,” she said. “They told me I could talk about politics and [that] it’s my show.”

“[With this show],” she said, “I’m an only child. I’ve been playing with siblings on ‘The View’ for 15 years and now I just want to be alone.” Of course, she’s still on “The View,” which returns for its own new season on the same day her new Current show premieres — Tuesday, Sept. 4.

Behar emphasized that “Say Anything” will be markedly different than her HLN show. The new show will focus primarily on political and social issues, she said — not the ripped-from-the-headlines celebrity stories the management at HLN pressed her to do.

“I can promise you that the words ‘Casey Anthony’ will not come up,” Behar said.

“Joy Behar: Say Anything” premieres Tuesday, Sept. 4, at 6 p.m./5c on Current TV.
