VH1 has canceled its upcoming reality series “Ev and Ocho” following the arrest of the show’s star, NFL player Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, over the weekend, according to The New York Times.
Johnson, 34, was arrested Saturday night in Florida on domestic violence charges after he allegedly head-butted his new wife Evelyn Lozada during an argument at their home.
In July, Johnson married Lozada, who stars on VH1′s reality show “Basketball Wives” (she was previously engaged to NBA player Antoine Walker).
VH1 filmed “Ev and Ocho’s” engagement and wedding earlier this year, and the eleven episodes of the show, including a two-part season finale, were scheduled to begin airing on Sept. 3, but the network has opted to can it.
“Due to the unfortunate events over the weekend and the seriousness of the allegations, VH1 is pulling the series ‘Ev and Ocho’ from its schedule and has no current plans of airing it,” the network said in a statement.
The fallout from the arrest was immediate for the wide receiver, who was cut from the Miami Dolphins team the next day and by Monday had his reality show yanked from the schedule.
Ochocinco previously appeared on reality TV when he was partnered with Cheryl Burke on Season 10 of “Dancing with the Stars,” where they came in fourth place.
