Billy Dee Williams has been tapped to guest star this fall on “NCIS” as someone quite influential on Gibbs’ life.

In fact, Lando Calrissian from “Star Wars” is playing Leroy Jethro, reports TV Guide.

Wait, what? So what does that mean for our favorite squad leader Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon)?

Billy Dee is actually guest starring as Jethro’s namesake “LJ,” a World War II veteran and close friend of the Gibbs family. So viewers will finally learn how Gibbs got his rather unusual moniker.

Williams’s episode of “NCIS” will air in October.

“This is a very rich, emotional story and we couldn’t be happier to have Billy Dee Williams bringing this character to life,” executive producer Gary Glasberg told TV Guide. “Mr. Williams appeared in some of my favorite films from Lady Sings the Blues and Brian’s Song to the Star Wars saga. Watching him work with Mark Harmon and Ralph Waite [as Gibbs' father, Jack] will be a real treat.”
