The lion’s share of the “DWTS: All-Stars” cast features “the creme de la creme” of “Dancing with the Stars” — mostly former winners — but one name on the cast list has everyone buzzing: Bristol Palin.
“I just think that God provides opportunities like this, and you can either go out and do them or not do them. I figure that the press is going to be talking about me no matter what, so I might as well be having fun,” Palin told TV critics Friday.
The 21-year-old single mom was a polarizing contestant during Season 10, where she finished in third place, and not much has changed in the two years since.
Sarah Palin’s daughter looks to be a controversial figure once again; Bristol dominated ABC’s cast reveal Friday at the TCA Summer Press Tour in Beverly Hills, fielding more questions than any other spray-tanned All-Star on the panel, which also included Pamela Anderson, Melissa Rycroft, Kelly Monaco, Gilles Marini, Drew Lachey, Helio Castroneves, Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke Charvet.
Insisting that “this is a fun gig” and she’s not doing it because she loves the spotlight, Bristol continued, “I just think you guys are going to be talking about us either way, so we might as well be doing something enjoyable and fun.”
When a reporter suggested that the Palin family has made themselves more vulnerable to the press by their continued presence on reality TV and turning it into the family business, Bristol bristled: “I definitely don’t think it’s our business.”
“You haven’t really gone full Kardashian,” Tom Bergeron quipped.
But almost. The Palins now have involvement in five reality series: Bristol’s two turns on “DWTS”; her Lifetime reality show “Bristol Palin: Life’s a Tripp”; Todd Palin competes this fall on NBC’s “Stars Earn Stripes”; and, of course, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska.”
As for whether or not she actually likes all this media attention, “Bristol the Pistol” jumped the gun and snapped, “Do I like to provide for my son? Yes, I do.”
“DWTS: All-Stars” premieres Monday, September 24, at 8/7c on ABC.
