It was all in the name of comedy, we assume, since Roseanne Barr had already revealed her aversion to Republicans when she appeared on David Letterman’s “Late Show” Tuesday night on CBS.
But she also indicated she’s not necessarily a supporter of President Obama, particularly where his administration’s policies on the legalization of medical marijuana is concerned. According to Roseanne, Obama’s government is against it.
“One thing I want to say is, Obama’s trying to take our medical marijuana over there in California!” Roseanne told Dave. “[The president is] trying to send in federal troops to get our medical marijuana!”
Roseanne, 59, has been very open about her own use of medical marijuana, which, by her own admission, she smokes to curb unspecified “mental” issues. Her medical-marijuana use came up several times on her short-lived reality show, “Roseanne’s Nuts,” about her life on a macadamia farm in Hawaii, which lasted six episodes last summer on Lifetime.
As you’ll see if you watch the “Late Show” clip, above, she hilariously channeled the late Charlton Heston when she declared, “I’ll tell you this! Obama, you ‘ll get my joint when you pry it out of my cold, dead fingers, that’s what!”
Heston, who was an outspoken gun-rights advocate, had famously made a similar declaration in a speech in 2000 in which he said the government would have to pry his rifle “from his cold, dead hands.”
Roseanne will be seen as the guest “of honor” on a Comedy Central roast scheduled to air Aug. 12.
