Dr. Phil McGraw reportedly poured $600,000 into a charity set up by George and Cindy Anthony, parents of Casey Anthony and grandparents of Caylee Anthony, Casey’s daughter who was murdered.
The Dr. Phil donation story comes via this column on the Orlando Sentinel Web site. The story credits an upcoming People magazine story with the donation scoop.
Apparently, the People story — headlined “The Strange, Lonely Life of Casey Anthony” — is coming out soon to mark the one-year anniversary of Casey’s acquittal in the murder of her daughter.
The story says Dr. Phil donated the money to help fund the venture, known as Caylee’s Fund.
It was set up by George and Cindy Anthony, the story says. But the story also reports that the fund was dissolved just late last week, declaring assets totaling just $100,000.
The story suggests that the “Dr. Phil” show paid the money into the fund in order to secure an appearance by George and Cindy Anthony on the season premiere of the show last September.
The story also alleges that the money Dr. Phil paid has gone toward supporting Casey, who is unemployed and has no source of income.
The story emphasizes — and so do we — that no one in position to speak on Dr. Phil’s behalf confirmed the dollar figure, or the allegation that the “Dr. Phil” show paid for the Anthonys to appear on the show, or that Dr. Phil’s money has gone toward supporting Casey.
