HBO Renews ‘True Blood’ and ‘The Newsroom’

Breaking news into the “The Newsroom“: Aaron Sorkin‘s cable news drama has been renewed for a second season just one week after it premiered.
“The Newsroom,” which stars Jeff Daniels as testy news anchor Will McAvoy, debuted June 24 with 2.1 million total viewers, giving it better premiere numbers than “True Blood” in 2008 and this year’s ill-fated “Luck.”

HBO has also ordered a sixth season of its summer vampire hit “True Blood.”

The current fifth season of “True Blood” is the last under the leadership of series creator Alan Ball, who next year turns the showrunner reigns over to Mark Hudis, currently a co-executive producer for the series.
