Ann Curry may be losing her high-profile anchoring job on “The Today Show” but perhaps this might soften the blow.
She’ll be getting paid a cool $10 million upon her exit, according to TMZ.
Curry, 55, signed a new contract last year when she assumed the “Today” co-hosting position, replacing Meredith Vieira, and is reportedly guaranteed that amount for the one year she lasted on the job.
The New York Post also reports the $10 million payout for Curry.
NBC is expected to announce Curry’s departure — and her new replacement (Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb are reportedly the leading contenders) — later this week or early next week.
Although her departure is imminent, Curry isn’t entirely on the outs with NBC; network sources say Curry is likely to become a foreign correspondent for NBC News.
Meanwhile, there’s now an online petition from Ann Curry fans begging NBC to keep the newswoman on “Today.” Sgt. Stephen Crowley, an Iraq veteran who admires Curry’s “compassionate style of journalism,” set up the petition, which has nearly 20,000 signatures to date.
Whether or not you’re an Ann Curry fan, you have to admit the longtime “Today” veteran has handled her ousting, which unfortunately went public last week when it was leaked to The New York Times, with grace and admirable composure.
