It is slightly less than two weeks since his six-hour kidney surgery, but “American Idol” winner Philip Phillips is already gearing up for the “American Idol Live! Tour,” which opens in Detroit, MI on Friday, July 6.
As for how his health issues will affect the tour, he says, ” I am pretty confident [I will make the whole thing]. I want to have fun with it. I have been recovering, but I have been practicing when I can. I believe it is going to go well.”
The 21-year-old from Leesburg, GA had commented after winning the title that the two items he planned on taking on the tour were his guitar and a good bed. And despite all the bed rest he has undergone since his surgery, he still plans to make sure he has a comfortable resting place, saying, “I will probably never be done with the bed. It will probably never change. I love to sleep but I have been going kind of crazy looking at the four walls around me.”
Even with 45 cities on the tour, Phillips is most looking forward to performing in his hometown, because other than the visit he made as part of the singing competition, he hasn’t been back since the live “American Idol” episodes began airing.
“I miss the food; I miss seeing familiar places,” said Phillips, who adds that at this point in time, he has nothing special planned for that specific concert. “Usually stuff doesn’t hit me until I am onstage.”
The “American Idol Live! Tour” with the Top 10 finalists kicks in Detroit, Michigan on Friday, July 6 and wraps in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Tuesday, September 11.
