UPDATE: “Bones” creator Hart Hanson says there are no plans for the upcoming eighth season to be the show’s last, denying star David Boreanz’s recent Twitter claims that the end could be near.

“We are in no way planning for it to be the last season,” Hanson told Entertainment Weekly. “I mean anything can happen in a complicated world,” he says, “but we’re very, very confident in having at least a season 9, and I can see as far as season 10 before my eyes get misty.”

Hanson added that Boreanaz was likely just “playing around” and “he loves a brouhaha.” He also didn’t rule out the idea that Boreanaz could be angling for some early contract negotiations.

Could “Bones” be preparing to dig its own grave?

Series star David Boreanaz, who plays FBI guy Seeley Booth on the Fox crime drama, sure seems ready to move on. In a series of dubious messages on Twitter Wednesday night, Boreanaz teased that this could be the final season of “Bones” and that the show’s appearance next month at Comic-Con could begin its “farewell tour.”

“SDCC 2012 shld be a blast and quite possibly the last for #Bones ?” Boreanaz Tweeted. “Farewell tour? Look forward to seeing everyone there.”

Casting more doubt about the show’s future, he also added that he’ll soon be a “free agent.”

“Let’s put this in sports terms. I’m a free agent after this season,” Boreanaz wrote. “So the Bones fair well [sic] tour is in full-swing.”

“You must always keep your options open and ready for New challenges. The fear is the unknown and that’s exciting,” he also added.

“Bones” debuted on Fox in 2005 and has had a loyal following over the years, a fan base that stuck with the show through multiple time-slot changes and most recently, a long hiatus due to costar Emily Deschanel’s real-life pregnancy (which was also worked into the show’s storyline).

The eighth (and possibly final?) season premieres this fall.
