Excuse us if we don’t see the resemblance.

Jerry O’Connell has been cast as Herman Munster in NBC’s “Munsters” reboot called “Mockingbird Lane,” confirms The Hollywood Reporter. One of TV’s favorite patriarchs, the role was originated by Fred Gwynne in the classic 60s TV series. (What, was Brad Garrett not available?)

The project comes from executive producer Bryan Fuller (“Pushing Daisies”), who plans to abandon the cliched comedy of the original for an edgier and visually stunning hourlong drama.

As previously announced, Eddie Izzard will play Grandpa Munster and Mason Cook will play Herman and Lily’s werewolf son Eddie.

O’Connell is married to actress Rebecca Romijn and was last seen on TV in ABC’s “The Defenders,” which was canceled after its first season.
