Modern Family” star Sarah Hyland caught her fans by surprise last month when she revealed she recently underwent a kidney transplant.

The 21-year-old actress appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” Wednesday, where she discussed her health struggles and gave an update on her recovery.

“I had [the surgery] about five weeks ago,” Sarah explained. “I’ve had kidney dysplasia since I was about 8 or 9 years old, so I always knew this was going to happen, it was just… timing.” Watch the Clip Above for More.

Hyland’s father donated his kidney to his little girl, a sacrifice she’ll always be grateful for, telling Seventeen magazine last month, “I have a second chance at life; not a lot of people get that.”

Little more than a month after the surgery, Sarah says she’s feeling great. And she has something else to be happy about: Hyland made Maxim magazine’s annual Hot 100 list, coming in at No. 50 … and beating her sultry “Family” costar Sofia Vergara (who came in at No. 71)!

Both ladies will be back at work in August when filming begins on Season 4 of “Modern Family.” “I can’t wait to go back!” Hyland says.
