Tim Daly is out of “Practice.”

The actor will not return to “Private Practice” next year for its sixth season.

Daly announced the news himself on Twitter late Tuesday, revealing the decision was not his, but that of showrunner Shonda Rhimes.

“Wonderful fans of PPP. Shonda informed my agent today that Pete wont be returning for season 6. It was a great 5 yrs. R.I.P. Pete Wilder,” Daly wrote.

One of series’ original cast members, Daly played Pete Wilder for five seasons on the “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff, which is perpetually considered a “bubble show” whose fate is often up in the air. But ABC once again issued a last-minute reprieve in mid-May, renewing the show for another (likely shortened) season.

It’s unknown if Daly will appear in some capacity next season to formally conclude his storyline, in which Pete was sent to jail in the Season 5 finale for the mercy killing of a patient.

Series star Kate Walsh, who plays Dr. Addison Montgomery, responded to the news of Daly’s surprise departure with her own note on Twitter, which simply said: “I love u tim daly.”
