After an introduction with all the fanfare Simon Cowell could muster, Britney Spears finally hit day one of her new career as a judge for “The X Factor.” Spears showed up for the first day of filming for the second season of the show to join the returning Cowell and L.A. Reid as well as fellow newbie Demi Lovato in Texas. She reportedly sounded insightful and funny.
According to E! Online, Spears’ first “X Factor” involved telling a teen boy he could be bigger than Justin Bieber and only gave two contestants a “no” during the auditions, telling one that “I feel like you need a new teacher to teach you how to sing.”
She even went on to tweet that “Texas has a lot of talent – seriously! Loving @TheXFactorUSA auditions so far.”
And then it appeared to be over.
TMZ reports that Spears walked off the set of “X Factor” soon after. The site reports that audience members said she became upset after a contestant “butchered” her song, “Hold It Against Me.”
Britney didn’t return immediately and four contestants apparently auditioned in front of the remaining judges with Spears nowhere in sight.
Someone connected with the show later told the gossip site that Britney was not actually upset over the song and instead “Just needed a break.”
No word on when she will return.
