“Celebrity Apprentice” finalist Arsenio Hall stopped into “The View” Wednesday morning to promote Sunday’s big season finale, but his successful return to TV hasn’t come without significant struggle.
During his run on “The Apprentice,” Hall has butted heads with cast mate Aubrey O’Day, culminating in a fight in which Hall called the former Danity Kane member a “slut,” a choice he tried to explain to “The View” hosts.
“I called her a really horrible word, and I apologize, but I apologize for the language, not for being angry, because she did things to me that you didn’t see,” said Hall.
“Aubrey O’Day one day was sitting in the van with Teresa from ‘Housewives’ and Clay [Aiken]. She shows Teresa a Blackberry with a black penis on it,” explained Hall. “She had a collection of different men she had been with… If I was in the van showing women’s parts on my Blackberry, my lawyer would get a call immediately, but there are double standards about how we behave.”
“She says, ‘Here’s a white guy I slept with. He was concerned with the fact that I only sleep with black guys, so he put a sock on his member.’”
Hall, who was competing on the reality show for the Magic Johnson Foundation, explained his motivations for taking the “Apprentice” gig, saying, “When I was signing up for the show, my cousin in Cleveland passed, and she died of AIDS. I had just gotten the offer from NBC and for me, it was like, OK, it’s time. More importantly, Magic looks so healthy, we can look at Magic, and he’s done well with the medicine… But sometimes, you look at him and you forget. You forget that we still have a job to do.”
As for the future, Hall says the hosting bug has bitten him once again. “I hosted for Piers Morgan on CNN and I was interviewing Cookie Johnson and Magic Johnson… There was a moment where it was like seeing an old girlfriend that I loved. I want a talk show again.”
