On Monday night, “Dancing with the Stars” host Tom Bergeron promised viewers a big announcement on Tuesday about Season 15. And on Tuesday morning, ABC announced the long-anticipated DWTS “All-Stars” edition is happening next season, bringing back the best celebrity dancers from the past to vie for a very special mirror ball.

“EXTRA” host and “DWTS” alum Mario Lopez leaked the rumor recently, and backstage Monday, the show’s dancers told reporters what they’d like to see on an All-Star season.

“I think it’s a great idea if we do it, and interesting to see who we’d get paired with, if they’re going to put us with our previous partners or they’re going to switch it up,” Derek Hough told xfinityTV.

Watch the Highlights from Monday’s Performances:

The three-time “DWTS” winner revealed a celebrity he hadn’t previously danced with who wants to perform with him on an all-stars edition. “Somebody came up to me awhile ago, a very beautiful girl, and she’s like, ‘I’m only going to do it if I can dance with you.’ I was like, ‘That’s great but we’re going to have to cut off about half your shins, because you’re too tall for me, baby!’ But she’s amazing.”

Mark Ballas, who has won the show twice, said of All-Stars, “I think that would be really fun. I don’t know who they’re going to pair me and Derek with — that’ll be interesting.”

When asked which former partner he’d like to dance with again, he said, “I’d love taking a crack at Sabrina [Bryan],” the Cheetah Girls singer who had so much promise with Mark but was sent home in a shocking elimination on Season 5. He also would love to compete again with his Season 12 partner Chelsea Kane.

But Mark could even see himself with a star he’s never danced with before, like Nicole Scherzinger or Mel B., who previously partnered with Derek and Maks Chmerkovskiy, respectively.

Meanwhile, two-time mirror ball winner Cheryl Burke was thrilled at talk about the All-Stars. “I think it’s time. It’s Season 15 and I think people want to see their favorites and maybe non-winners, maybe a couple winners, maybe a couple of finalists, who should have won. We need some more excitement. I think there’s only so many more [new] celebrities you can get. I think we need to get people who have already been on the show in the past.”

However, Cheryl would prefer to re-train a previous partner. “People like to see the chemistry you’ve had. I think everyone has grown as a person. If I danced with someone from the third season … I’m much different than I was back then and I’m sure he is as well, so you never know.”
